Implant-supported prosthetics require tailored maintenance strategies that reflect their design, materials, and functional demands. This course provides a clear, practical comparison of maintenance protocols for removable overdentures and fixed implant restorations. Participants will explore how prosthetic design influences assessment, instrumentation, biofilm management, and patient home‑care recommendations. The session highlights key differences in access, attachment systems, complication patterns, and long-term maintenance needs, while reinforcing evidence-based approaches to preventing peri-implant disease. Designed for dental hygienists and the full dental team, this course builds confidence in delivering consistent, safe, and effective implant maintenance across all prosthetic types.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Compare and contrast maintenance protocols for fixed and removable implant prosthetics, including access, design, and attachment considerations.
- Differentiate biofilm and deposit management strategies based on the unique challenges of fixed versus removable prosthetic designs.
- Identify and contrast common mechanical and biological complications associated with each prosthetic type to support early intervention and team communication.
