Optimal infection control practices have been a key aspect of dental professionals’ education, but they were not regulated or monitored by outside entities until the late 1980s. Today, infection control protocols and practices are impacted by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA),1 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),2 and state licensing boards. Additionally, the World Health Organization (WHO)3 provides resources regarding infection prevention worldwide.
