RDH UOR 2013 Through the Years: Advocacy in Aging, A Dental Health Care Professional’s Role The tide is turning and by the year 2030 more than one-fifth of Americans will be over the age of 65. As life expectancy increases, so does the ratio of elderly patients in our practices. This course will prepare you to meet the needs of the geriatric patient and reach out to the community to help other health care professionals understand their oral health needs. You will gain understanding of: Levels of independence and interdependence, assessment of functional status, adapting home care and training caregivers, setting our office care up for success, evaluation of special needs and accommodations, health evaluation and interlinking with other health care providers, common disease of aging, oral diseases of aging and strategies for prevention, implications and side effects of medication, and comfort care and end-of-life treatment.
