Live Webinar: Shielding Your Teeth: A Comprehensive Guide to Dental Erosion

June 24 @ 7:00 pm 8:00 pm

Dental erosion is the gradual loss of enamel and dentin from acid exposure, unrelated to bacteria. It’s increasingly common due to modern diets and habits. Causes include intrinsic factors like acid reflux and eating disorders, and extrinsic ones such as acidic foods, drinks, and vaping. Erosion can lead to sensitivity, aesthetic issues, and functional problems. Prevention involves reducing acid exposure, supporting saliva’s protective role, and using remineralizing agents.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize the multifactorial causes of dental erosion, including dietary acids, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), eating disorders, illegal drug use, and vaping.
  • Evaluate the severity of dental erosion using clinical indices such as the Basic Erosive Wear Examination (BEWE).
  • Implement preventive strategies tailored to the patient’s risk factors to reduce further enamel and dentin loss.
  • Apply evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including pH-neutralizing agents, remineralization therapies, and lifestyle modifications, to manage and mitigate erosion progression.
