UOR 2018 Credits: 2 Course Code: VC62K7 CA #: 02-4527-15295 Early childhood caries has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. An overwhelming 90% of children in the US have untreated decay and the percentage of children affected by early childhood caries in the United States has increased 28% since 2009. This is more than twice the increase of ECC in developing countries at 12%. The education process to prevent this epidemic starts long before birth. Attendees will learn the protocol developed by the speaker to alleviate the compliance issues associated with ECC. This course will teach the process of dental care for conception to birth and how to educate parents, caregivers and children using these methods that emerged from an 18-month study conducted in Appalachia that can be adapted to fit the needs of any area in the country. The etiology, transmission and current research will also be reviewed.
