Learning Objectives:
- Demonstrate confidence in the basics of general hand instrumentation, including the ergonomic principles needed to deliver quality patient care
- Recognize the importance of instrument selection for optimal patient care
- Analyze unique instrument patterns that can help reduce the risk of hand fatigue and increase patient comfort
- Discuss the advantages of Sharpen-Free Instruments and the benefits of a modified instrumentation technique
Instrumentation can play an integral role in patient comfort, quality of care, and career longevity. Often we learn instrumentation in school, and that’s it. Then the hygiene appointment becomes a game of beat-the-clock. And we clinicians have the tendency to stick with our top five instruments missing out on new innovations in instrumentation that can improve both the patient outcome and the clinician experience. Learn about instruments and techniques that will help you improve your efficiency and ergonomics and realize that the universal is not as universal as we had hoped!
