RDH UOR 2013 Is there a formal definition of dental hygiene? What is professionalism? Is there a setof clinical practices we should all be implementing? The answer is Yes! In 2008, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) defined dental hygiene as the science and practice of the recognition, treatment and prevention of oral diseases. TheADHA Standards for Clinical Dental Hygiene Practice include Professional responsibilities and considerations, which enable clinicians to define professionalism for themselves. The ADHA has had a long-standing policy that a baccalaureate degree should be the entry level for the profession of dental hygiene. This session will review unique opportunities to attain a bachelor’s degree as well as additional credentialing within the profession through the American Academy of Dental Hygiene. This interactive session is designed to move you forward in the profession!
