Using a risk assessment can assist the dental professional in addressing the disease process with the patient and in planning treatment. It is advantageous to use a completed risk assessment, along with various caries identification methods, to help guide the patient and dental team in management of early carious lesions. The use of minimal-intervention dentistry to address early carious lesions is an integral part of the caries management process and should be considered when devising a caries management plan.
