Assessing Dental Implant Health as the Foundation of Successful Maintenance

FREE WEBINAR | October 20, 2026 | This course equips dental hygienists with practical strategies to assess and maintain dental implants, identify peri-implant disease early, and incorporate desiccation technology into nonsurgical peri-implantitis management. (1 credit)

Summary

Dental hygienists play a crucial role in safeguarding the health and longevity of dental implants. Comprehensive evaluation of implant health is the foundation for selecting appropriate maintenance strategies and identifying peri-implant disease at its earliest stages. This course is designed to equip dental hygienists with the knowledge and skills needed to assess and monitor dental implants, recognize changes associated with peri-implant health and disease, and incorporate appropriate therapeutic strategies. Participants will also explore the adjunctive use of desiccation technology in the nonsurgical management of peri-implantitis, including its role in disrupting and removing biofilm from challenging implant surfaces.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define key parameters for evaluating dental implant health, including peri-implant soft tissue findings, implant stability, and radiographic analysis.
  • Identify appropriate instruments and diagnostic techniques for comprehensive implant evaluation and maintenance.
  • Recognize clinical and radiographic findings associated with peri-implant health, mucositis, and peri-implantitis.
  • Discuss the adjunctive use of desiccation technology in the nonsurgical treatment of peri-implantitis and its role in implant surface biofilm management.
  • Explain the importance of regular, structured implant evaluations and individualized maintenance protocols to the long-term success of dental implants.
