Dental practices today provide a remarkably similar set of offerings to their patients. The lack of significant differentiation between practices provides an opportunity for these practices willing to embrace oral systemic links (OSLs) as a significant way to enhance value to your patients. Understanding and rooting our hygiene practices in the systemic links between oral and overall health positions our hygiene teams to be true advocates for the health of our patients. This session examines how OSLs can inform the system protocols: oral self -care and nutrition, diagnostics and technology approaches you take with your patients. We focus, in particular, on cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and pregnancy outcomes through the lens of several case studies with my patients. We conclude that the benefits OSLs bring to our practices make for healthier practices, more inspired teams, and distinct and sustainable identities for our practices.

Optimal infection control practices are a key aspect of dental professionals’ ongoing education. Until the late ‘80s, these practices were not regulated or monitored by outside entities; however, today’s infection control protocols and practices are impacted by OSHA, CDC, and state licensing boards. The World Health Organization also provides resources regarding infection prevention worldwide. Together these entities provide the foundation for sound infection control practices that will protect both clinicians as well as patients. Defining the roles of each entity/agency and what they bring to infection prevention is important for every member of the dental team and to meet the mandatory licensing requirements. It’s also important as they provide dental practices with methods to develop and maintain optimal infection control protocols and practices.

Single office owners are feeling the pressure on their market share -- but also seeing the opportunity. They don’t want to be a part of corporate dentistry and are hungry to grow on their own. The problem is, many launch into growth and then quickly tumble back down. They don’t know what to expect when they buy or build that second, third, fourth office. Who to hire? How to hold them accountable? What business model - partner/no partners, branded/non-branded, acquisitions/denovos? If you think you’re ready to grow, come learn what you’ll need to know before you embark on the DSO journey. What are the most common pitfalls and how do you avoid them? What tools will you need to develop and thrive? Learn the answers from an industry veteran who has grown, led and sold multiple group practices over a 20 year career.
